In 2018, the output of China's wood-based panel industry continues to grow, and the proportion of plywood is expected to continue to decrease in the future.

Wood-based panels are wood or other non-wood plants as raw materials. After being separated into various unit materials through a certain mechanical processing, they are plated or molded products with or without adhesives and other additives. They mainly include plywood, fiberboard, and particleboard etc these three kinds of products.

In recent years, China's wood-based panel production has continued to increase, although the growth rate has gradually slowed down, and in 2017, it has experienced negative growth for the first time. According to the data, in 2017 China's wood-based panel output was 294.86 million cubic meters, a year-on-year decrease of 1.85%. Among them, the output of plywood, fiberboard and particleboard were 189.04 million cubic meters, 62.97 million cubic meters, and 27.78 million cubic meters, respectively. 64.11%, 21.36%, and 9.42%.

At the beginning of the development of the industry, plywood was used more widely due to its higher strength. Benefiting from technological progress in recent years, fiberboard and particleboard are gradually replacing plywood. In 2017, plywood accounted for about 64.11% of the total production capacity of wood-based panels, and the proportion is expected to continue to decrease in the future. The structural adjustment of the wood-based panel industry will be accelerated, and the future development of fiberboard and particleboard will be broader.
